Honest car repair shops?

Anyone have any car repair shops that are honest? I just went to (unnamed shop) in Waltham and got cheated over $300. They made a repair for me but my car began to leak quickly after. I brought it to a different shop and they said (unnamed shop) tightened the bolt so much it broke and didn’t replace it and still made me pay for a full repair. I’m fed up with dishonest shops that try to cheat customers for money. Are any honest repair shops out there?

Honest dependable service. I know that when we bring our cars here that they will always help us to make the best decision toward what repairs should be done and what repairs may be needed in the coming months or years. (Helps gives us a head up on what might likely be needed for our type of vehicle). The prices are very fair and reasonable and it is a great comfort to know that the repair estimate and final bill won't be padded for unexpected expenses. Highly recommend!

Newton Street Service has been running with Bob as the owner operator for 30+ in the same location. When I first moved to Waltham six years ago, I found Newton Street through another online site (cartalk.com) where they were one of the top two ranked garages in town.

 

My SO and I have brought 3 different cars to Bob and the guys over the years - a 15-year-old Ford, a 13-year-old Subaru and an 8-year-old Hyundai, which they helped me vet before buying (and before that, they kept me from buying a few clunkers). The guys are all very experienced, professional and *absolutely* honest. The prices are reasonable, they finish when they say they will and often they have late-model loaners if you need to get your car serviced and still get to work.

 

I now live 25 miles away, and still drive in to Newton Street Service to get anything major done - a good mechanic is hard to find!

Bob and the guys down at Newton Street are the best. I've been going down here since January (and so has my wife) and it's been great. They're usually able to get routine (quick) maintenance in and out, and their pricing is incredibly fair. I had to get a lot of work done on my front end last year, they charged my about $1k less than the Toyota dealership quoted me for the exact same work.

Absolutely terrific garage. I've been taking my cars here for decades, and they've fixed all kinds of problems from big to small. I've never had to worry about being ripped off. If something goes wrong, Bob will set it right. On the few occasions I've taken a car somewhere else, I've regretted it. Nothing fancy, just good reliable service at a fair price.

I recently brought my car to Bob and the guys at Newton Street Service for a broken engine mount.  Bob gave me a thorough assessment of the problem and he took the time to answer all of my questions, like "What is an engine mount and does it really matter?"  I also asked friends and family if they had ever dealt with a busted engine mount and how much does it cost to replace.  I was told by a couple of sources to expect a price somewhere between $500 to $600.  Bob quoted me a competitive price of $355.  Also, I needed the car that night, so Bob went out to the retrieve the part and installed it within 2 hours.  I plan on using Newton Street as my service going forward.  Great customer service!

We have been taking our car(s) to Bob for the last 3 years. We had a Mini Cooper prior to having a BMW 328ci and Bob has always been honest, fair and fast. He and his staff all go out of their way to make minor maintenance and large part replacement as painless as possible.  We've had everything from an oil change to a partial under body overhaul.  All was very reasonably priced and the longest it took was overnight.  Highly recommended!

As a previous reviewer said, what a great feeling to know a good mechanic you can trust! I've been going to these guys for years, and for good reason. They're always professional and friendly, have reasonable prices, are patient with my many questions, have presented me with options and told me which I don't really need, and have let me use a loaner car when I've been in a transportation bind. The only drawback is they're not open on Saturdays - not so convenient for me, but great for them that they can manage weekends off! No worries, I'll continue to be a loyal customer...
